Screen-Free Week in Kansas City
Hey KC families! Screen-Free Week is approaching! That's right -- from April 30 through May 6, 2012, millions of people across the country will participate in Screen-Free Week, an national initiative that encourages families to "unplug" by turning off televisions, computers, and video games for seven days. Screen-Free Week is designed to give families, children, and adults the opportunity to read, play, think, create, be more physically active, and to spend more time together.
Screen-Free Week is also a great time to explore something new and fun with your kids! Use this time to start a new tradition or hobby that everyone can enjoy.
According to a study conducted by the National Institute on Media and Family, children spend more time sitting in front of electronic screens than doing any other activity besides sleeping. Excessive screen time is linked to a number of problems for children, including childhood obesity, poor school performance, and problems with attention span.
